What to Say

It has been awhile. (I figure that I should write something to that effect, because it is becoming a tradition).

I was hit with a thought today as I was driving back to my house after going to get some groceries for my brother. I turned up my hill and noticed so many sad looking Christmas decorations. Wooden Santa's and the blow-up yard ornaments that were deflated and crumpled in mostly brown, drowning lawns. Such a let-down after months of preparation. A little bit of sadness came over me as I realized that Christmas is gone. But a split second later, the thought came that Christmas is never really over. Although Santa comes and goes, Jesus is always around, always giving us gifts and blessings. We can only leave cookies and milk out for Santa one night a year, but we can leave prayers at Jesus' feet all year round, and he will be sure to pick them up and care for them.

As I grow older, the magic of Snowmen and Santa and all the lights become less bright. At times I find this to be disheartening. But while Santa has faded, Jesus has become so much more vivid. I have an unexplainable joy and continuous source of assurance that God loves us so much more than we can fathom, and that the Christmas season never truly goes away.

Merry Christmas everyone.
